We will welcome the arrival of the Year of the Rat in 2020 with high spirits. The Rat is the first of the twelve zodiac signs, marking a new cycle.

The previous zodiac cycle ended with the global financial crisis and sluggish economic growth. The Rat belongs to "Yang", representing the bright and positive aspects as described in Yin-Yang theory, signifying the beginning of a new era. In Chinese culture, the rat is seen as a symbol of wealth and surplus.

A new beginning must be a year of abundance and prosperity. Although economists may not agree with Chinese fortune tellers' views on this year's economic prospects and growth, individuals are more inclined to believe the optimistic fortune tellers. The Golden Rat brings blessings starting from January 25, 2020, lasting until February 11, 2021. After months of protests, most people in Hong Kong will certainly welcome a new beginning. Although calm has largely returned during most holidays at the end of last year, showing that conflicts seem to have decreased in terms of numbers and violence, fundamental social issues remain unresolved. Furthermore, with the signing of the Phase One agreement, the direct confrontation of the China-US trade dispute seems to have eased, which may signal a way out of adversity.

Wishing everyone prosperity, abundant wealth, and a great New Year!
