China to Cooperate with Global Tax and Strengthen Digital Taxation

China will step up its efforts to address global digital tax rules. China outlined its plan in the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025) at the the Belt and Road Initiative Tax Administration Cooperation Forum (BRITACOF) on Sept 7, through “Accelerating Digital Development and Building Digital China”, by creating new advantages in the digital economy to accelerating digital development said Wang Jun, head of the State Taxation Administration.

Wang, also the first chair of the Belt and Road Initiative Tax Administration Cooperation Mechanism Council (‘BRITACOM’), noted the use and development of e-invoices and digital technologies, outlining a new vision for the construction of digital China in the next five years.

The BRITACOM is an official non-profit organization to facilitate tax cooperation amongst jurisdictions that subscribe to the Belt and Road Initiative, aiming to promote trade and investment liberalization in member countries by strengthening its cooperation in tax administration.

As a result of joint efforts from member countries, BRITACOM has seen a continued expansion since its creation two years ago. The Council now consists of 36 members and 30 observers.

To further develop its digital tax, China has been promoting the application of new technologies and intends for further international exchanges, training courses and global cooperation to boost information based taxation.
