Newsletter - Edition June 2020

Dear Friends of Zetland,
Since the protests of last year and more recent actions taken in response by China and the US, Hong Kong’s future as a trade and finance hub has been questioned. Our Chairman Jim Sutherland gives his view on the subject in our articles.
The disruptive impact of COVID-19, has certainly been defining how businesses will operate in the future. Companies and business owners globally have been tested on their ability to adapt quickly to uncertainty, adjust the business strategy and, for most, mitigate an abrupt decline in turnover. Mitigating the impact and ensuring a swift business recovery all while not being able to meet business partners, clients and suppliers or even colleagues due to social distancing and domestic and international travel restrictions required executives and business owners to challenge the status quo of the office and work environment. Technology and the digital world provided a solution to communicate and a platform to work remotely.
Despite seemingly adverse market conditions, we still see confident existing and new clients investing in Asia starting, expanding or reorganising businesses. Shared services and outsourced business processes, like our administration and accounting services, fill the gaps, temporarily or permanently, when flexibility is key. China’s economic activity is picking up again and countries around the world are evaluating steps and timelines to ease lockdowns and containment measures. It is however expected that cross-border travel will still be limited for some time. Being able to rely on a resilient business partner has never been more important.
